Brief Information about the Department:

The veterinary pathology department is a specialized division within Veterinary Science focused on studying of diseases in animals at the tissue, organ, cellular and molecular levels. It plays a crucial role in diagnosing diseases, supporting clinicians for their clinical decisions, help researchers advancing in research, improving animal health and prevent disease outbreaks. The department is offering the courses of B.V.Sc. & A.H. Programme, as per VCI Regulations-2016, and M.V.Sc. & PhD Programme, as per ICAR Restructured and Revised Syllabi of Post-graduate Programmes 2021 (Vol.3).

Facilities Available: 

The department is well equipped with sophisticated facilities for conducting research of high standards viz. Laboratory for cell culture work, Molecular biology laboratory equipped with PCR, Real time PCR, Refrigerated high speed centrifuge, CO2 incubator, UV-Vis double beam spectrophotometer, Phase contrast microscope, Electrophoresis systems with gel-documentation, and Histopathology laboratory equipped with Cryostat microtome, semi-automatic rotary microtome, Automatic staining machine, etc.


Ongoing Projects: 

1.      “The use of field deployable diagnostic tests for detecting African Swine Fever Virus infections in Pig” funded by United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), USA

2.      “Molecular biological studies on Newcastle disease virus (NDV) for development of diagnostic assay using gene editing technology for rapid differentiation of field and vaccine strains of NDV from field outbreaks” funded by Department of Biotechnology (DBT)

3.       All India Network Program on “Challenging and Emerging Diseases of Animals (CEDA)” funded by ICAR, New Delhi.
