DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY ANATOMY AND HISTOLOGY
Name of the Department: Veterinary Anatomy and Histology
Brief Information about the Department:
The Department of Veterinary Anatomy and Histology at the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Central Agricultural University was established in November 1998 to contribute the fascinating and emerging area of biological sciences. It has both undergraduate (B. V. Sc. & A.H.) and postgraduate (M.V.Sc. and Ph.D.) academic programmes. The UG programme is as per MSVE, 2016 regulation and the PG and Ph. D. programme is as per ICAR, 2021 regulation. The ICAR had given accreditation to the M. V. Sc. and Ph. D. Programme of the department which is unique in North-Eastern India, imparting quality education and providing an excellent research environment through its ongoing programmes. It imparts training for students to make them competent, motivated clinician and scientists. The department has developed extensive research facility and infrastructure to support the ongoing teaching and research initiatives.
The research focus of the department is on establishing a database of the specific anatomy of Zovawk (Mizo local pig), Mithun, Yak, Sloth Bear, Sun Bear, Hoolock Gibbon and Slow –Loris. The department has successfully completed nine intramural research projects of Central Agricultural University including four on Zovawk, the unique animal of Mizoram. The histology and histochemistry laboratory provide biopsy, histochemistry, immunohistochemistry and high-quality slide preparation. The faculty of the department has published more than 135 research paper in journal of National and International repute.
The faculty members and the post graduate students of the department contributed their original research articles in various national and international journals published by Wiley (Microscopy Research & Technique, Anatomia Histologia Embryologia, Veterinary Clinical Pathology), Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (Annals of Medicine and Surgery), Scimago (International Journal of Morphology), Via Medica (Folia Morphologica), ICAR (Indian Journal of Animal Science) and ARCC Journals (Indian Journal of Animal Research) etc.
