(Sponsored by Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India)
The Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility (BIF) was established in the college in the year 2009 with the financial support of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India under the Biotechnology Information System Network (BTISnet) programme. The primary objective of this facility is to promote biology teaching through bioinformatics (BTBI). It provides services to the host faculty and other neighbouring institutions of higher education in terms of Internet connectivity, retrieval of online and offline biological databases, bioinformatics software and tools for facilitating biological research particularly in the area of sequence and phylogenetic analysis, database development, molecular modeling and drug design, etc. It also periodically organizes hands-on trainings on various aspects of application of bioinformatics tools and molecular techniques in biological research.
Research Objectives :
The Centre carries out frontline research & development in the broad areas of bioinformatics, computational biology, and Molecular Modeling & Molecular dynamics. The objective of research of this centre is the creation and development of different programs and databases in the field of computational biology and to implement them in day to day life. This centre aims at to develop databases collaborating with other medical institutions, Agriculture Universities available in this remote area. As this centre is the only facility in this remote locality, it wants to implement the bioinformatics analysis to solve various problems of this locality with the help of academic and research community around this area.
Ongoing Research :
Modeling studies of membrane system,
Structural Bio-informatics to develop novel drug molecules,
Cluster and self assembly study,
Protein-ligand interactions.
